About the programme

The full-time tennis with education programme, will provide young aspiring tennis players the opportunity to fulfil their educational requirements while still enabling them to continue their tennis development. The programme will run onsite at the academy Monday to Friday and the day will be split as per the below:

  • Education programme, 9.30am-12.30pm
  • Tennis training, 8-9am, 2-5pm

The programme objectives are to develop well rounded young adults with skills in all areas to succeed not only in tennis but in life. The training will be centred around the 4 factors of high performance; technical, tactical, physical and psychological. Education is also a big part of young person’s development and we encourage all our athletes to continue in Education. We provide academic facilities through Interhigh School and our onsite tutor Linda Ellis.

Tennis Training

Our aim is to develop tennis players with solid technical foundations and efficient movement and footwork patterns, allowing them to be able to execute a multitude of strategies and tactics when on the court. We focus our technical and tactical training on these three match situations:

  • Serving / Returning / Open Play

We will introduce our players to patterns of play in each of the above situations and teach them the movement, footwork and upper body technical skills to execute these patterns consistently.

Physical Training

Enhanced mobility and recovery is the primary focus of our physical training. Our fitness coach, Dan White directs the programme based on the TACFIT system. This method allows for continual readiness and aims to reduce the time needed between training, recovery and growth.

Conventional strength and conditioning programmes employ a periodisation programme with phases building up to peak performance. In tennis, especially in the developmental years, it can be very challenging to get these peaking times correct as matches can come at any time throughout the year. Being continually ready to perform physically gives our athletes the edge over other players.

Psychological Training

We aim to instil a growth MINDSET into our players so they believe that all skills – physical, mental or emotional – can be developed over time with hard work, persistence and mentorship. The three principals of the BETA growth MINDSET are:

  • LEARN at all times and at all costs

  • EFFORT activates ability

  • EMBRACE SETBACKS as normal occurrences when taking on challenges

Education

The BETA educational programme is run onsite at the tennis academy via a virtual classroom. Students will spend between 9-13 hours per week online within classes and programmes will range from key stage 3 through to A levels.  The virtual classroom is provided by InterHigh, a complete online Secondary School and Sixth Form College, welcoming pupils from across the UK and Internationally. Our students will use special software and an internet connection to join students from all around the world. Interhigh currently has multiple young tennis players studying with them. Our students will be supervised onsite by our tutor Linda Ellis. Linda has personal and professional experience in core subjects in the UK education system from primary through to secondary school.

Competition

Competition is an integral part of a tennis players development. Within every one of our player’s programmes there will be multiple dedicated match practice sessions on a weekly basis. Depending upon the level of our players there will be 10 weeks of dedicated external tournament camp weeks through the year. These camps give great opportunity for tournament play, coach feedback and action plans to improve certain areas. Our higher level players will have appropriate tournaments added into their yearly plan and coaches will attend various events nationally and internationally to support the development of our players in the competitive arena.

Video Analysis

As visual learning is a very common trait amongst most people, video analysis is an important tool that can be used to help to develop and improve players. With advances in technology our coaches can now video players on their phones and tablets and give them instance feedback on areas that they are working on. We also aim to give our fulltime players termly video reports linked to their technical goals at the start of the period. These video reports can have comparison with past videos of the players and also professional players. We will also video full matches using fixed cameras mounted on fences to give full view of the court, so strategic and tactical analysis can be completed on our players.

Nurtitional Advice

Young tennis players are training very hard, with this in mind the fuel needed for these young athletes is huge. However, not only in large amounts but consisting of the right stuff, which will not only give them energy but will help them recover their bodies correctly. We give our players advise on the best foods to eat before, during & after training and matches, as well as aiming to educate them on foods that are not the healthiest and why they are not so good for young athletes. Our players can then make sensible decisions when their diets are concerned.

Player Management

We manage all the details of our full player programmes including; yearly plan, goal setting, weekly training and tournament schedule. Each player has a online sharing sheet which is available to the parents, the player and all the coaches working with the player to edit and update as necessary. Organisation of tournament travel is also available to our fulltime players. Our team will take care of all the logistics that are involved when tennis players travel to events nationally and internationally.
