Italian Summer Camper Ludovico does a double at Chesham

Ludovico Sanna won the U16 and the U18 boys titles at the Chesham 1879 event last week. Ludovico is from Sardinia in Italy and is training with BETA as part of our Summer camp programme.Ludovico started the week with the U18 event where he went through 4 rounds without dropping a set to claim the title. Along the way defeating fellow BETA player Nicholas Blagg. This would be Ludovico’s first tournament win in the UK, but not the last! A few days later he won his way through to the U16 boys final where he would again be faced with Nicholas Blagg in an all BETA final. Nicholas had come through against another BETA player Reece Farrow in a very tight contest in the semi-final. Ludovico played very strong and showed his solid tennis level to defeat Nicholas once again to make it a double in Chesham. “It has been a lot of fun at BETA these past few weeks and I really enjoyed playing these matches at the tournament.” Ludovico said. The young Italian is hoping to move into US College Tennis programme once he is finished high school. “Many people I know have gone to the States for college and I’m hoping I can keep going with my tennis to achieve this goal” added Ludovico.

The Chesham titles didn’t finish with Ludovico, as we had another all BETA final in the U14 boys singles, where Reece Farrow was up against Josh Hayes. In very trying conditions, Reece was able to stay the most solid throughout the match to win it and claim his first tournament win of the summer events.

In other BETA player news, Sophia Mezzone won the U16 girls event at the Ellesse Chandos Junior event without the loss of a set. Sophia, the top seed faced the second seed in the final, winning it with a solid performance 6-4, 6-2. This was Sophia’s second win at regional level in the U16 category this season after victory earlier in the year at the Wolverhampton Open.

The summer tournaments continue this week with events at Gerrards Cross and Radlett.  Good luck to all!
