College Tennis Conference Titles for BETA Alumni
In April every year college athletes go to battle in their respective conferences championships. Former BETA player Adam Coyne, Ronald Mataba and Georgie Gosen were all in action for their college tennis teams this week.
Adam and Ronald are both on a tennis scholarship at Alabama State University. Over the weekend they competed in their conference finals in New Orleans. They made it all the way to final where they were up against their big rivals Jackson State. It was a tight encounter but our boys Ronald and Adam clinched the all-important doubles point and then Adam went on to clinch the final singles point which brought the title to Alabama State! “It was a war, I have never experienced anything like this, and at the end the boys finished strong”, said Ronald. “It was an unbelievable weekend for the boys”, said Adam. “Winning the last point to clinch the match for the team is something I will cherish for the rest of my life.” The team will now qualify for the National Finals in May, an exclusive 32 team tournament for the best college tennis teams in the country.
Georgie Gosen who trained at BETA from its inception in 2008 through to when she left for college 2013, is now on a tennis scholarship at Northern Central Texas University. Georgie lead her team to their conference title as she battled through arm and shoulder problems to win 4 matches. Georgie, who plays in the number 1 spot for her team has had a great season and is ranked #3 in singles and #2 in doubles respectively in her conference.
